The Fighter

The career of lightweight boxer Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) seems to be stalled. Surrounded by a crack-addicted half-brother and trainer, Dicky Eklund Jr. (Christian Bale) − a former pugilist who knocked down legend Sugar Ray Leonard during a boxing match − and a domineering mother / manager (Melissa Leo), Micky realizes that he needs to make things happen for himself if he wants to become a world champion…

“The Fighter” is a winner in every sense of the term. Similar in tone to boxing movies like the “Rocky” franchise, it outshines them all hands down. Why? Mainly because of its cast. As always, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale are phenomenal, while Amy Adams shows why she deserves her 2011 Oscar nomination (Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role). Finally, Melissa Leo delivers a stellar performance.
