
On April 22, 1970, the first Earth Day celebration brought together 20 million Americans and started an environmental revolution. Twenty years later, the annual event landed on international shores with 200 million participants, including two million Canadians. And the numbers have grown steadily to reach one billion worldwide. The Earth Day Network (EDN) works with 22,000 partners in 192 countries to ensure continuous success of the environmental movement.
In Canada, many cities are ready to celebrate Earth Day 2011 − before, on and after April 22. Here is a list of highlights:
