Cendrine Marrouat: Why did you choose to focus on the topics of virginity and male heartbreaks?
Kimberley Johnson: “The Virgin Diaries” was made because there was nothing exactly like it. There are some other books out there that are similar but most either only focus on women and/or have commentary, history, etc. We wanted to get right to the point. What does is feel like emotionally as well as physically to have sex for the first time? No one really ever tells you the emotional side and most of us lose our virginity with no clue as to what to expect. Most of us know the mechanics but that is only a small part of the story. Information is power. From what we have found, there is a serious gap when it comes to positive sexual education from parents, religious figures and institutions as well as schools.
